Manitoba Centres of Excellence Fund

In the 2017 Provincial Budget, Research Manitoba received a $2 million cut to its budget, which is now $15 million annually.

Research Manitoba is reviewing its organizational priorities and will align our programs with strategic goals identified through this strategic planning process.  This could mean significant change for, and possible cancellation of, existing programs.  Research Manitoba is currently analyzing feedback from a stakeholder survey, and anticipates having more information on 2018 programming available early in 2018.

We understand that this may bring about substantial changes and we greatly appreciate your patience as we work through this process.

There are very limited funds still available for MCEF in 2017-18. Please contact Freyja Arnason at for further information on the availability of funds and the application process.

The Manitoba Centres of Excellence fund (MCEF) is Manitoba’s research and development support mechanism for those Manitoba based researchers who are participating in a successful Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) funded by the federal government. MCEF support is set at 20% of federal government funding support (NCE) targeted towards Manitoba researchers participating in national research networks. * Eligibility requirements, and further program information can be found in the Program Guide (link below).
