Canada Foundation for Innovation

Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) is the federal government agency for funding research infrastructure within universities and colleges. The research infrastructure includes state-of-the-art equipment, laboratories, databases, specimens, scientific collections, computer hardware and software, communications linkages, and buildings necessary to conduct leading-edge research.

The federal CFI program supports 40% of total project costs.

Research Manitoba’s CFI Matching Fund program provides  20-40% of the project total, depending on available funds, for proposals that have been awarded grants through one of CFI’s competitions.

Residual project costs must be sourced by the Principal Investigator from other sources besides CFI and Research Manitoba.

CFI has multiple funding opportunities with differing timelines available for researchers across Canada. For more information and application timelines, please refer to the CFI website here: https://www.innovation.ca/apply-manage-awards/funding-opportunities
