Research Manitoba is pleased to announce the release of our 2024/2025 Annual Report, a publication that celebrates a year of growth, collaboration, and continued commitment to strengthening Manitoba’s research ecosystem during our tenth anniversary year.

This milestone report highlights the launch of Unlocking a Brighter Future, our 2024-2027 strategic plan. The plan sets clear goals to elevate Manitoba’s research environment, foster Indigenous-led research, and continue building provincial capacity in health research

The past year included several significant achievements:

  • Major progress on RITHIM, including a successful testing phase with a new software vendor, streamlined application redesign, and preparation for the full provincial launch of Manitoba’s harmonized health research approval system

  • More than $32 million in combined program expenditures and leveraged funds, supporting 134 research projects, 172 researchers, and 272 students across Manitoba’s health, social sciences, humanities, natural sciences, and engineering communities

  • Support for 347 Mitacs internship units, strengthening Manitoba’s industry–academic partnerships and ensuring trainees gain hands-on research and innovation experience locally

  • Launch of the Research Connections program, funding 20 Manitoba-based research events that shared knowledge, fostered collaboration, and connected Manitoba’s research community

  • Continued investment in high-impact research infrastructure through CFI matching funds and Innovation Proof-of-Concept (IPoC) grants, supporting 17 CFI projects and 38 new IPoC projects across priority sectors

As a special recognition, Research Manitoba extends thanks to Honest Agency and Avenue 4 Communications for the design and production of this year’s Annual Report. We also warmly acknowledge and thank Leticia Spence for creating our unique 2024-2025 tenth anniversary logo, which honours this milestone year.

We invite you to explore the report and join us in celebrating a decade of advancing research, supporting innovation, and building a stronger future for our province’s research community.
