June 24, 2026 – Winnipeg, MB
Research Manitoba is announcing a new priority area for the 2026/27 intake of the Manitoba Solutions Grant program: Climate Adaptation & Community Protection. The upcoming competition will support Manitoba-based research that develops practical solutions to help communities prepare for, respond to, and adapt to the impacts of a changing climate.
Research Manitoba is also introducing a new two-stage application process for the Manitoba Solutions Grant program. Beginning with this competition, applicants will first submit an Expression of Interest (EOI). Successful EOI applicants will then be invited to submit a full proposal for consideration.
“Manitoba researchers are uniquely positioned to develop evidence-based solutions that address the growing challenges posed by climate change,” said Ashley King, Research Manitoba Program Officer. “This new priority area will support research that strengthens community resilience, informs decision-making, and helps protect the people, infrastructure, and services that Manitobans rely on.”
The Climate Adaptation & Community Protection intake will provide catalyst funding for research that applies, analyzes, or develops strategies to support and protect Manitoba communities from climate-related risks. Increasing wildfire, flood, extreme weather, and water security challenges require Manitoba-specific evidence to guide land-use planning, emergency management, and the resilience of essential infrastructure and services.
The competition aims to:
- Strengthen Manitoba’s research capacity, infrastructure, and expertise in climate adaptation and community protection.
- Support applied and translational research focused on climate impacts and practical solutions for a climate-resilient future.
- Generate new knowledge, evidence, and tools that improve disaster readiness and community resilience.
- Encourage interdisciplinary and cross-sector collaborations involving academic institutions, industry, public sector organizations, Indigenous communities, and non-profit organizations.
Eligible research areas may include climate risk modelling, watershed and drinking water protection, food security and supply chain resilience, community emergency preparedness, infrastructure resilience, and northern transportation and logistics reliability.
Projects funded through this call should generate evidence-based insights, frameworks, tools, or prototypes that can inform policy, guide best practices, or be scaled for broader application across Manitoba.
New Expression of Interest Process
To support the development of high-quality applications and ensure alignment with program priorities, the Manitoba Solutions Grant program will now use a two-stage application process.
The Expression of Interest (EOI) competition will open on Monday, July 6, 2026, at 9:00 a.m. CST. EOI submissions will be accepted until Monday, August 17, 2026, at 4:00 p.m. CST.
Applicants whose EOIs are successful will be invited to submit a full proposal. The full application stage is expected to open in September 2026, with final submissions due in November 2026.
Researchers interested in applying are encouraged to review the program guidelines and contact Research Manitoba to discuss project fit and eligibility.
