March 20, 2025 – Winnipeg, Manitoba

In a strategic effort to establish Manitoba as a leader in global research and innovation, the provincial government has announced an increase of $100,000 in funding to Research Manitoba as part of Budget 2025. This significant investment underscores the government’s unwavering commitment to fostering research excellence and driving transformative discoveries that will benefit all Manitobans.

This new funding aligns seamlessly with Research Manitoba’s 2024-2027 Strategic Plan, which focuses on three pivotal goals:

  • Elevating Manitoba’s Research Ecosystem: Positioning Manitoba as a global research hub by attracting industry, supporting commercialization, and fostering collaboration through strategic partnerships.

  • Fostering Reconciliation through Indigenous-Led Research: Recognizing the diversity of our research ecosystem and making important changes to enhance equity within our programs and committees.

  • Advancing Manitoba’s Health Research Capacity: Reducing health research bureaucracy and streamlining privacy, ethics, and impact reviews.

The additional funding will empower Research Manitoba to accelerate initiatives in these strategic areas, fostering an environment where both emerging and established researchers can thrive. By investing in cutting-edge research and innovation, Manitoba is poised to address key societal challenges, stimulate economic growth, and enhance the quality of life for its residents.

By bolstering the research sector, Manitoba aims to stimulate local industries, create high-quality jobs, and attract top talent to the province.

As Research Manitoba celebrates its 10th anniversary, this funding boost serves as a testament to the organization’s decade-long commitment to excellence in research and innovation. The enhanced support will pave the way for groundbreaking discoveries, strengthen professional development opportunities for researchers, and create avenues for new growth within Manitoba’s vibrant research ecosystem.
